God Bless America

So tonight (the 4th of July, also known as Independence Day) I spent a calm night relaxing with a couple of close friends.  I have been suffering from severe migrains the last few days so the quiet night was rather perfect for me.  While we were eating and drinking and hanging out we rather coolly began quizzing eachother on random American trivia.  And unfortunate for me, I sucked.  I realized that while at one point in time (5th grade) I may have been able to name all the capitals for every state in the US, when asked at random a certain state, I got about 1 out of 3 right.  And when I jokingly asked someone to name all the Presidents, I could have maybe named 7.  Total.  And the list goes on about things other people were talking about that I couldn't even tell you.  That's when I realized I suck at being an American citizen.  I know far too little about my country.  Especially current events. I blame it on my not wanting to watch the news in Memphis, but really its not a very good excuse.  I could easily read up on my current events online while skipping the heavy crime stuff.  So tonight I decided that is what I will do.  I usually only take about a 20 minute lunch, but that is the perfect amount of time to do a little light reading.  At any rate it will beat just staring at my food while I eat it.  Now which current event/American history informative magazine shall I subscribe to?  Any suggestions?
